Atlantic Computers Case Analysis Essay
1. Stick with company tradition by charging only for hardware and give the PESA software tool away for free. As can be seen in Exhibit 2, there is a noticeable difference between basic servers running with and without the PESA software. This difference would cater directly to those customers in the file-sharing application and web-server segments of the market. Currently, as the Tronn would be competing directly with the rival companyââ¬â¢s Zink server, which is priced at $1,700 as opposed to the Tronnââ¬â¢s $2,000, customerââ¬â¢s would assume that the Zink is better value as it costs less, despite the fact that the price shows a 40% mark-up over Tronnââ¬â¢s 30% mark-up. By offering the PESA software tool as part of the overall package, Tronn could add a value advantage over Zink, as they do not offer a software tool which enhances the performance of the server. However, as aforementioned, the customers using the basic servers would benefit most from the PESA software, rather than the high-performance servers. According to Exhibit 1, the majority of units sold are those of the high-performance servers. 2. Charge a price equal to what the customer would pay for four Ontario Zink servers. The case states that Ontarioââ¬â¢s Zink servers dominate the basic server segment, and therefore the introduction of the Tronn server would mean that the two companies would be competing directly against one another. Further, Ontario holds a supply-chain advantage over Atlantic, in that they ensure that their products are widely available to all consumers, e.g. the majority of their sales are generated online. However, when loaded with the PESA software, Tronnââ¬â¢s servers run at an efficiency of 4 times faster than their standard speed. The option suggests that the Tronn, when loaded with the PESA software, should be valued at four times as much as the Zink server, as it would be performing at the same standard. This would price the Tronn at $6,800. While a price this high would indeed generate revenue, it must be considered that the Tronn is a new product entering the market. Without appropriate marketing, the consumer would be unaware of the benefits of using the Tronn and thus would opt for the much cheaper option, Zink. This strategy is called skimming. In order to be successful, Atlantic would have to ensure that consumers are aware of the significant product differentiation between the Tronn and the Zink servers (i.e. The PESA software). 3. Charge a price based on a cost-plus approach to pricing PESA (based on software toolââ¬â¢s development costs). As stated above, the cost-plus approach is Atlanticââ¬â¢s standard pricing strategy. In the case, Atlantic is said to have production restraints and therefore will only be able to produce a certain number of Tronn servers in the near term. For example, if Atlantic can sell all of its projected units in the first three years, they are looking at selling 212,000 units in total. In the first year, the percentage of market share rises by 4%, meaning that the total number of Tronn servers sold was 2,000. In the second year, the percentage rises by 9%, giving a total of 6,300 servers sold. In the third year, this raises to 14% and 12,880 servers sold. Of these 21,180 servers, assume that only half are loaded with PESA software, giving us 10,590 servers with the software in total over the three years. The development costs of the PESA software totalled $2,000,000,000. In order to cover the development costs of the software in the first three years, Atlantic would have to price the software at $189. If we assume the Tronn server without the software costs $1,538 to produce, and the PESA is to be included in the sales price, we are looking at a $1,727 production cost. Adding a mark-up of 30%, the sales price of the Tronn and PESA (Atlantic bundle) would be $2,245.10. 4. Charge a price based on value-in-pricing. In order to calculate a total savings price, it is necessary to determine the calculations of a few other items. Also, in these calculations, we will assume that the Tronn server is valued at $2,000. Firstly, considering that one Tronn server loaded with the PESA software is performs to the same standard as four Zink servers, it can be said that a saving of $1,600 per annum can be had by purchasing just one Tronn as opposed to 4 Zink servers. Secondly, annual electricity savings are equal to $250. Third, the cost of application software licenses is equal to $750 per year. Finally, if a server administrator earns $80,000 per year and the number of servers one can manage is 40, labour cost savings are $2,000 per year. The total savings can be added to achieve $4,600 per year. In a quick summary of the above, the following can be noted: * In Option 1, the price of the Tronn and PESA software tool would be $2,000. * In Option 2, the price of the Tronn and PESA software tool would be $6,800. * In Option 3, the price of the Tronn and PESA software tool would be $2,245.10. * In Option 4, the savings of purchasing the Tronn and PESA software tool would be $4,600. I believe that Option 1 would not be an intelligent strategy for Jowers to use. Without charging for the PESA software, the company will find themselves struggling to pay off the costs of developing the tool in the first place. This means they would have to sell more units in the first three years than what they originally projected, giving the company unrealistic sales assumptions and in my opinion, they would ultimately suffer profit losses. I also consider Option 2 to be a bad choice of strategy. While one Tronn server, in conjunction with the PESA tool can indeed perform to the power of four Zink servers, it would be foolish to price the Tronn at the equivalent of this. A price of $6,800 for just one server is too much for a consumer to consider paying, especially for a product that is new into an already established market. Serious marketing and clear differentiation would be required to ensure the success of this strategy, both of which can be very time-consuming and costly. While Option 4 shows a significant number in savings, I would recommend that Option 3, the cost-plus pricing strategy be used in launching the Atlantic Bundle into the basic-server consumer market. As stated in the case, Atlantic Computers is already a strong player in the high performance servers segment, but due to the consistent growth of the internet, the new market of basic servers is emerging. Jowers discovered that one of the main reasons that Atlantic succeeded in the high performance severs market was by product differentiation. This is a large factor in the Tronnââ¬â¢s appeal to the basic server segment, as it also comes with the PESA software tool, something that Zink computers does not have. However, Ontario Computers competes mainly on price, due to the fact that they are able to sell their products online and therefore cut costs in other areas. Despite this, I believe that with Atlantic emerging into the market with a superior product, they will be able to compete successfully. According to Atlantic Computers general consensus, they do not usually charge extra for software tools. However, the importance of the PESA tool must be made known to the sales force. Firstly, without charging extra for the tool, the company will struggle to generate enough revenue in the first three years to pay of the development costs of the product. Furthermore, Jowers followed the status quo and used cost-plus pricing to determine the value of the software, and after adding that cost onto the production costs of the Tronn itself and also adding a 30% mark-up, the total bundle only cost $245.10 more than the Tronn would cost on its own. Emphasis should also be put on the fact that one Tronn server loaded with the PESA software tool, which was valued at $2,245.10, performed to the equivalency of four basic Zink servers, which in total would be valued at $6,800. This shows a $4554.90 saving for customers who choose to purchase the Atlantic Bundle over the required four Zink servers for the same performance. With Jowers given the opportunity to talk with prospective buyers at the trade show, he will also have the chance to explain the features and benefits of purchasing the Atlantic Bundle himself as well as obtaining firsthand consumer feedback on the products. According to the case, the CEO of Ontario Computers states, ââ¬Å"Our business model is not to be the leading innovator on product technology. Rather, our business model is to provide leading technology to customers via the most flexible and innovative supply chain strategy possibleâ⬠. The company achieved this by managing to cut their costs through distributing their products online and thus were able to offer their product for a much cheaper price than Atlantic Computers. In retaliation to the introduction of the Tronn in the market, Ontario Computer will most likely continue to base their business model on operational excellence and continue to search for ways to compete on price. Another consequence could be the company developing a software tool of their own to compete directly with the PESA tool. If this was to happen, it could pose a threat to Atlantic Computers in that Ontario would still most likely be capable of competing on price, giving them the competitive advantage. However, if Atlantic manages to establish their brand before their competition gets a chance to retaliate, they should have no problem holding onto their market share and consumer segment.

Distinguish egalitarian, rank, and stratified societies in anthropology Essay
There are universally acclaimed structures of society and these can either be beneficial for the individuals or not. One of the many political doctrines that can be beneficial to the individuals of a society is Egalitarianism. Egalitarian is referred to be as a kind of society which gives equal rights and opportunities to the people. Egalitarian societies give equal treatments to their people, equal rights to resources, equal in moral status and equal rights of the laws and church and they donââ¬â¢t have even permanent leadership. The notion of egalitarianism came about because in biblical verses, it was written that God loved His people equally (Arneson). Another kind of political doctrine is the social stratification; it is viewed as the social hierarchy of social classes and strata within a society. Social stratification is universally acclaimed but varies accordingly to the societies that uphold it. There are three major components of social stratification according to the conflict-perspective sociologist Max Weber; the class, status and party. The status of a person in the society plays a big role in the determination of his or her role and his behavioral patterns and changes that he or she will have. There are actually four classes in a stratified society; the propertied class, the property less class, the bourgeoisie, and the working class. An individualââ¬â¢s role in a society is predicted by the class he or she is under. In stratified societies, those who have the capital are the ones who rule and have the greater opportunity to the resources and services and those who have nothing are have the lesser opportunity (Rodriguez). Societies have differences; some give equal rights to the people and others do not. Thus, societies continue to exist because social order is maintained.

Fall in and dulce et decorum est Essay
During WW1 war poetry changed dramatically. At the beginning of the war, in 1914, propaganda poems were a popular technique to encourage men to join the army to fight for England. Harold Begbieââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËFall Inââ¬â¢ was a typical highly patriotic poem that persuaded men to enlist. However, poetry changed at around 1916, after the Battle of Somme, when thousands of men were killed. Soldiers like Wilfred Owenââ¬â¢s wrote poems showing the real terrors they faced in war. Both poems are war poems and both poets use different language techniques to provoke the readerââ¬â¢s feelings. This essay will compare ââ¬ËDulce et Decorum estââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËFall inââ¬â¢ by looking at the language, structure used and the poetsââ¬â¢ attitude towards war. Begbie uses many techniques to make men want to enlist to fight for their freedom in ââ¬ËFall Inââ¬â¢. This poem was published as a ââ¬Ëcall to warââ¬â¢ in newspapers and magazines. Highly patriotic poems are also known as jingoistic poems and were very popular at the beginning of the war, as they persuaded men to enlist. We see an example of a patriotic phrase in stanza two; ââ¬ËIn the war that kept men free? ââ¬Ë This implies that England was free before the war and by joining the war the men are helping to keep England free forever. This is patriotic, as it is saying how good England was and how everyone had there freedom. Men liked their freedom and so enlisted. Also; ââ¬ËAnd Right is smashed by Wrong? ââ¬Ë supports the idea of patriotism, as the word ââ¬ËRightââ¬â¢ describes England and ââ¬ËWrongââ¬â¢ describing Germans. Meanwhile, Owenââ¬â¢s poem is based on his own war experience, and his poems convey the pain, and suffering the soldiers encountered by using a range of similes, metaphors and onomatopoeias; A simile; ââ¬ËCoughing like hagsââ¬â¢ illustrates how weak and ill the soldiers are. The metaphor ââ¬ËKnock kneedââ¬â¢ emphasizes how tired the men are as if they are about to collapse as their knees cannot support them anymore. The onomatopoeia in stanza three presents the poem in a more realistic way; ââ¬ËCome gurgling from his froth corrupted lungsââ¬â¢ uses the onomatopoeia ââ¬Ëgurglingââ¬â¢. The reader can almost hear the painful sounds of the dying man. Secondly, Begbie says that soldiers who go to war will not be mocked and will be loved for their bravery when they come back. The poem threatens the reader that if he does not enlist, he will be looked down upon and we see this from the line; ââ¬ËBut what will you lack when your mate goes by with a girl who cuts you dead? ââ¬Ë The words ââ¬Ëcuts you deadââ¬â¢ support the same idea. ââ¬ËWhen the girls line up the street shouting their love to the lads to come backââ¬â¢ shows that girls will praise and love the soldiers who come back from war. Men like having lots of attention and will therefore join the army. On the other hand, Owen presents a very different view. Owen believes that soldiers will be destroyed and traumatised forever after the war; ââ¬ËIn all my dreams, before my helpless sight, he plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowningââ¬â¢. Here, Owen talks about how endless nightmares tortured him every night. The nightmare was described vividly to the reader, so those who want to enlist will think about the consequences. When Owen says, ââ¬ËIn all my dreamsââ¬â¢ it shows that he saw the man every night. He was badly affected after seeing the horrors in war. Many soldiers were badly traumatised after the war and had to be taken to a psychiatric hospital. This is the opposite picture Begbie creates; there are no cheerful soldiers being chased by women. Thirdly, Begbie uses a question and answer structure to make the reader question why they are not going to war. For instance, ââ¬ËHow will you fare, sonny, how will you fare in the far-off winter nightââ¬â¢ is one of Begbieââ¬â¢s questions which occur at the beginning of each stanza. The poem assumes that man is going to live. Most people are scared of death at war, but the way that Begbie assumes the reader will survive makes the reader think that it is an easy war and, so, it is not a problem joining the army. Also, the way Begbie uses the word ââ¬ËSonnyââ¬â¢ displays the idea that he is older that the reader and most young men, at that time, respected their elders very much and would listen to what they said. The answer; ââ¬ËWill you slink away, as it were from a blow, your old head shamed and bent? ââ¬Ë would make the men who are not fighting want to enlist, as they know it could happen to them one day. Conversely, ââ¬ËDulce et Decorum estââ¬â¢ has a much different structure. Here, Owen describes what trench life is like and then follows on to describe a gas attack. There is no question and answer structure and instead every alternate line rhymes. The first stanza tells us of life in the trenches, and Owen emphasizes how weak the soldiers are. The second stanza describes a gas attack, and the third stanza describes what a gas attack does to its victim. Finally, Begbieââ¬â¢s attitude, which is shown in ââ¬ËFall Inââ¬â¢, is that all men should go to war. He is saying that all men should enlist and fight for their country. The last sentence; ââ¬ËWhen your brothers stand to the tyrantââ¬â¢s blow and Englandââ¬â¢s call is Godââ¬â¢s! ââ¬Ë demonstrates that Begbie expects all men to fight against the ââ¬Ëtyrantââ¬â¢s blowââ¬â¢ as ââ¬Ëbrothersââ¬â¢. He also compares Englandââ¬â¢s call to Godââ¬â¢s call showing that he thinks that Gods thinks that all men should fight against the Germans and their allies as well. People who were very religious might have thought that war was a chance to prove to God that they were brave and faithful to their country and should go to Heaven. In opposition, ââ¬ËDulce et Decorum estââ¬â¢ has a different attitude. Owenââ¬â¢s poem says why men should not enlist and that death in war is unnecessary and inevitable; ââ¬Ëthe old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est pro patria moriââ¬â¢ this means that it is not sweet and right to die for your country. The words; ââ¬ËThe old Lieââ¬â¢ proves that Owen disagrees with it being sweet and right to die for your country. We also see that Owen has a negative attitude towards other propaganda poets. For example; ââ¬ËMy friend, you would not tell with such high zestââ¬â¢ proves that he is against men being told to enlist; ââ¬ËMy friendââ¬â¢ implies that Owen is talking to a propaganda poet such as Begbie. He does not mean ââ¬ËMy friendââ¬â¢ and is using sarcasm. He blames the propaganda poets for making so many men think war is good and making them enlist, causing many deaths. Many people, when war was just announced, were extremely eager for it to start since they thought war would be over in a few months. The saying; ââ¬ËOver by Christmasââ¬â¢ was what everybody expected. However, the war lasted much longer then that-a total of four years. After the Battle of Somme attitudes started to change dramatically, since hundred thousands of soldiers were being killed per day! Wilfred Owen started writing about what the soldiers had to confront during this time, and war did not seem so honourable.

The Council was founded by Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani along with his wife, SheikhaMozahbintNaseer Al-Missnad. All education related matters are handled by this Council and has even directing and controlling power to make decision from primary level to higher education level. It recently initiated Education for a New Era Reform with the aim of restructuring education system of the country (Supreme Education Council, 2012). However, education controlling power is shared in between Supreme Education Council and Ministry of Education; since funding to the Ministry is reduced to a greater extent, majority of schools, colleges and universities are under the control of the Council. The main aim of this Council is to offer its assistance to citizens so that they are encouraged and motivated to acquire higher education. Similarly, private institutions and foreign universities are being attracted to increase education level and offer varying degrees of programs to students that are compatible with job demands in the market (Coughlan, 2012). Throw away All Fears Except the Fear of God Personal Statement - 4
Throw away All Fears Except the Fear of God - Personal Statement Example I actually hated myself for this, but I just could not help myself being what I am, a silly fool perhaps to others, but for me, I am just doing my best to live up to Godââ¬â¢s expectations. In a span of twenty years, I helped my sister pay her debts, I rescued my brother, also from his debts, I made his children my scholars, one in high school and one in college, taking up Nursing, I loaned two friends to the tune of $14,000.00, and I had not been paid up to now, I contributed to the weekly dialysis of my brother for almost two years, and many more dole-outs, that I should say, they are countless. The bottom line is, my total debt had reached a staggering high of 50 thousand Dollars, which I figured, were already impossible to erase, considering I have no extra income, and the value of the assets that I had acquired is not even close to 30 thousand Dollars. My faith in the Good Lord Jesus Christ kept me going. Every night I still get a restful sleep, because I believe tomorrow is another day. The only process I have used, to deal with the most difficult situation in my life was to throw away all my fears, except my fear of hurting my God. When we truly understand how mu ch God loves us, what can we be possibly afraid of? For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7, NLT). When I said I should not be afraid, I meant there must be solutions to all our problems. I had to throw away my fear of facing my problem After having decided to throw away my fear of not being able to pay everyone, I resolved to change. I realized that I can always help people, if not financially, then in other ways, such as spending the time to listen to their worries and help them find solutions. I can still prove to my God that He can use me to bring about His Glory to everyone.Ã

George Washington's Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
George Washington's Leadership - Essay Example extended to matters of communication with his troops and this enabled them have a competitive edge over the Indians and even protected the citizens from these frequent attacks. His extreme courage was immensely seen in the battle ground where he was not afraid to expose himself to the danger of even bullets. There is even one occasion where he was shot at four times during the war but this did not deter him from continuing to fight for his country. This courage extended to his troop and they therefore fought relentlessly and obeyed his orders without doubt. Even after his men were terribly killed and in large numbers at Valley Forge in 1777 and some died from diseases, this defeat and setback did not dishearten his military career or leadership but he continued to fight with renewed courage and determination. This showcased not only a tough man but a persistent one as well who would stop at nothing to see his country liberated (Goldfield, et al 215). His toughness also portrayed when it came to protecting his army without fear or favor and this made him the best military commander and commander in chief even after he became the president.
